Interview to CDA Students / Kaustubh Adhav / India

I am 24 years old. I was born in Goa,India. Having done my graduation in Production Engineering I did work for a few months in an Automobile Manufacturing Company but I knew my destiny was somewhere else. 1. Please tell us what do you study at school? If you are working, what kind of job you are engaged in?

I left my last job as it was my dream since childhood to be a car designer. Since then I have been devoting maximum of my time to CDA and developing my sketching skills. I also provide Freelance Design Assistance in my free time.

2. What was your trigger to decide join CDA? Please identify what was your difficulty to study car design before you joined CDA, if there is any? Any anxiety you had when studying car design by yourself?

I personally believe that to be able to design something that delights people is always fulfilling. One of the things that people have a strong emotional connection with are the cars they drive. For me, Car Design was a passion that was within me since childhood. As a winner of a Car Design Contest, I was offered a scholarship at IED, Turin. However, due to the financial condition at the time it would have been difficult to manage living expenses in Italy and hence couldn’t accept the offer.

3. Please give us your feedback regarding the quality of  Text Materials/Video Text /Instructor’s review (Advice & Corrections)

The text materials and video text were excellent in cultivating my sketching skills. However, without the proper guidance from my Instructors at CDA it would have been difficult to assess the areas where I had to improve my skills.

4. Please indicate how many hours (minutes) do you spend for practicing, homework, and any other related work for CDA, for example (design competition preparation) or routine .

I spend around 5 hours daily practicing sketching and homework. Also, I spend whatever time I get reading and looking up design trends and other things to improve my skills.

5. How do you find out the Monthly Design Competition?

The Monthly Design contest generates a healthy competitive environment that helps in generating good design proposals in a limited time. Also, in order to get better design every time it helps to polish design skills. Also it is interesting to see how the other classmates proposed a design solution for the design brief.

6. Message for those candidate students who is considering joining CDA?

I personally benefited a lot from CDA’s Total Design Course. My skills have improved by leaps and bounds. The concepts that I used to design before CDA looked amateur and now my skills have progressed to become more professional over time.

7. Any other message you would like to tell other people? Your view regarding design, or sketch, or practice method?

It is always good to cultivate analogue skills as sketches are the base of any design. Continuous practice can only help improve your skills. There are no alternatives. Digital painting help uplift your work but without proper sketches, digital painting can help only a little.
