  • Points are given on a scale of 1 to 5 for each criteria (15 Points Total).
  • ①Consistency between the theme and the concept (5 points)
  • ②Development of idea (5 points)
  • ③Sketching skills (5 points)

The realistic designs, that have consistency in-between theme and concept, tended to earn higher scores.

Panel judges have given high evaluations on the concept and design that matched well, was surely expressed by his sketching skills. For those reasons, they decided this work as the Grand prize of the competition. Furthermore, in the concept, he discussed about “sport” in society and examined the existence of sports cars of the future, that is wonderful.
However, he needs to make a little adjustment on the styling to make the vehicle look like a sports car. But, at this point (as a means of starting point for the idea), this is a good proposal.

The 2nd Prize is Mr. Sakai!

Panel judges had an impression that overall, this work was well organized, and the scores he received on each criterion were high on average. His aim was clear. Moreover, it convinces viewers into being attracted to this vehicle as a sports car and makes them feel “cool.” However, it seems that some small details were not completed yet. If he could pay attention to the details without losing his concentration, the quality of this work further improved.

The 3rd Prize is Ms. Chen!

The new sports car presented in this work was developed from a wheelchair. She considered a sports car as “mobility that plays a sport,” and both disability people and able-bodied people can enjoy riding this vehicle, that is great!
Indeed, presenting the map which shows the design directions was efficient to communicate her intention. She thought thoroughly about what she could do to convey her idea at the presentation. This is a good example of showing how a designer decides his intention and what thinking process was followed along it in order to persuade viewers.

The 1st Prize in Group Bis Mr. Morikawa!

He has made a remarkable breakthrough! He was in Group C in the previous competition, but he is the top of Group B this time.
He proposed an authentic sports car, “car at circuit” in this competition. Panel judges have given high evaluations on his idea sketches that were developed enough and his expression ability of the rendering which was high. Particularly, in his idea sketches, there were some attractive ideas that could surpass his final design. This fact makes us feel his potential for further development. We expect him to keep working on those attractive ideas that received “good!” from Mr. Yamashita even after the competition.

The 2nd Prize in Group B is Mr. Mizuno!

He proposed that people can exercise in this vehicle (what a bold idea!). He considered the exterior design well to suit the person who would exercise inside the vehicle, that is good. The most impressive point in this work was the development of ideas. The idea development was stretched enough, and viewers can understand the process of how he reached the final idea. However, there is still room for improvement in his rendering. We encourage him to improve expression skills and we look forward to seeing his improvement especially in the rendering at the next competition.

The 3rd Prize in Group B is Mr. Yoshioka!

He defined the Micro Sports Car as “small car but cute & lively.” We admire that he challenged such a difficult theme like cute sports cars. His work was a well-balanced design by proposing not only exterior, but also the interior, that received high evaluations from the judges. If he acquires more expression skills, he would enhance it in the ranking.

The 1st Prize in Group C is Mr. Jevero!

He predicted that the size of the middle class would grow in the near future, and he created a sports car targeting the class. He narrowed down the target region, and analyzed it. As a result, his answer was enhanced in his design, which received high evaluations from the judges. He is still growing and learning the expression skills; however, we admire that he has a strong vision of design, so we hope he will continue to do his best like this.

JUDGE’S REPORT

To all participants in the competition, we are so proud of you! You did work on such a tight schedule.

Actually, we had been concerned about maintaining the quality of this competition because the withdrawal of some regular members who are always ranked in Group A happened in the middle of the competition due to their personal reasons or countries’ situation. However, our concerns were eventually wiped out. All entries submitted at the final submission were very attractive and had originalities. As a result, it enable us to keep the quality of the competition high. In particular, there were several students who ranked in a higher group than the previous time.

Student’s growth is the top priority for us, and it is our hope that all students at Car Design Academy will enjoy their learning here and treasure academic growth. Your achievements throughout the competition made us glad, and hope this is a huge step toward your future.

We will continue to hold the CDA Design Competition. We hope you will enter the next competition and keep on drawing!
